Comment from Ryohei Suzuki

"I'm scared, and I'm still trembling."

Every time I hear this opening line, scenes from the movie come flooding back to me.

The veteran nurse's trembling hand embraces the trembling hand of the rookie nurse. The pilot pushes the lever, guiding the ship forward. And the doctor is torn between fear and duty.

Where does our instinct to want to save human lives come from, even amidst fear and despair?

"Everyone who wishes to help someone and can summon the courage to do so is a hero." I am truly grateful back number for taking this sentiment of this work so seriously and creating such a wonderful song.

This song is sure to be an anthem of encouragement for everyone who is working hard for someone else today.

The end credits, where this song plays, encapsulate everything about MER. Please experience it in the theater until the very last second.

Comment from TBS Producer Masanao Takahashi

"TOKYO MER" was conceived with the desire to send our heartfelt support to healthcare workers who are taking on the challenge of this unknown virus for the sake of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the other hand, even now, in times of disaster and other crises, there are many people who rush to help those in need.

Anyone who has the courage to take a step forward for someone else is a hero.

This "South Sea Mission" is a story that depicts the strength of ordinary people who rise up.

If the theme is the struggles and growth of "ordinary people," then back number is the only choice for the theme song.

Just as I expected, I was captivated from the very first line of the lyrics.

It's scary. I can't stop trembling. But I'm sure there's something I can do for someone else. It's a wonderful song that gently encourages me to surpass the person I was yesterday, just a little bit.

Comments from director Aya Matsuki

When we started preparing for this project, I was listening to back number 's album "ユーモア" while I worked. It gave me hints as I thought about how to depict the awe-inspiringly magnificent nature and the daily lives and growth of an inexperienced team, so when I later heard that back number would be creating the theme song, I was surprised and felt it was somehow fateful.

The theme song we received, "幕が上がる" (The Curtain Rises), is a warm and powerful song that resonates with all the characters in the film from the very first phrase. I felt that it perfectly captured what we wanted to portray. I believe that the film is complete once this song is finished. Thank you for this wonderful theme song.

Comment Iyori Shimizu (back number)

The time in my life when I feel most in danger is the day of a live performance. Even if I make a mistake on stage or hit a wrong note, I won't get injured. However, with the slightest movement, I start sweating profusely, time seems to condense, and I feel as if my mind and body are screaming that "life and death are at stake."

It might sound like a laughing matter, but as a band member influenced by this movie, I tried to confront "weakness" and define "strength."
